Over the years, Sound Beach Soccer Club has provided a pathway for kids to play soccer from intramural to developmental and then to travel soccer as they matured. This model, used by many clubs, has proved successful for Sound Beach Soccer Club given the growth we have seen year over year. Even though we continue to see this growth year over year, we have faced challenges where we have lost some players because we did not offer a path to a higher level of soccer beyond travel soccer as we know it. These players, where soccer is their primary sport, have typically moved to academy teams which brought together highly skilled players from across communities.
Sound Beach Soccer Club will now have that path for players looking for more soccer coupled with a higher level of competition.
We are working together with Baymen, East End, and Commack soccer clubs to create teams that will be called SUSA FC. Teams will be created from U9 and older. Here’s a breakdown on how this will work…
SUSA FC will hold tryouts for the pre-academy (u9-u11) and academy teams (u12-u18). Players will be selected by SUSA staff and will register directly with SUSA. Baymen will offer travel teams to any player not selected for a SUSA team and Baymen travel teams will be formed after the SUSA tryouts. Players selected for a SUSA team at the pre-academy level (u9-u11) can also play on a Sound Beach travel team. This gives the best of both worlds to the kids seeking a higher level of soccer. They can compete in high level leagues with SUSA teams and continue to play on a local team with friends from school.
Additional key points:
1. By no means is this required, this is strictly for players that are looking for more.
2. The level of competition will be higher, so there is no guarantee a player will make a team.
3. SUSA is building a state of the art soccer complex in Central Islip which will become their home fields.
4. The commitment and cost is higher on a SUSA team as compared to a Sound Beach Travel team.
